This is a capability that is provided to the Business Processes and Activities. Examples include Securities Trading, Policy Management, and Parts Routing. These are used for two purposes. First, by categorizing applications by the capabilities they provide, we can easily see the applications that provide the same capability as others and then work toward reducing their number to lower licensing costs. Another purpose is to specify business processes in more stable manner. Business Processes require certain Application Capabilities, which remain relatively constant. However, the applications that supply those capabilities change over time. Using Application Capabilities allows us to show a stable specification that tracks to the business life-cycle and provides an insulating layer from the underlying churn of technology changes
